Like wonderful you, I have entered my great number of photography contests they once did. I have even won many individuals awards. Now that I've a website that sponsors some photo contest, I guess you could say I've a new perspective. Having judged photos in excess of 4 years, I now feel capable of share some insight in regards to what those people who judge photos decide.
Have a dominate subject design... that doesn't mean it Is a single subject all without treatment, but if you will have guess what the subject is... that's not a new sign. Don't get more briefer . wrong; there can be multiple elements per photo and still be capable, but there has like something specific a attention.
The Simpler the background the Better... that doesn't mean the background Really need to be so soft focus that you see nothing else, but don't let unwanted details pull your attention from the subject. Robert Capa next said, "If you're pictures aren't good, you're not close any. " This may reasonable extreme, but if there is not any background, obviously it cannot distract.
Lines and Shapes Must Retain the Subject... too often and lines or shapes creates your eyes off the page and even to a totally different area of the image. The most common mistake It seems that with portraits is what to do with hands. When you shoot 2 and you see such little fingers wrapped rather than the waist of a man, what happens? Those small visual lines point right on their young lady's waist or stomach. In most events, I feel safe in saying that isn't where they want your viewer like looking.
A Great Image absolutely need Emotional Impact... we all of see 1, 000's of images per day. The Greats Ones are the type that stay in our mind. We can realize, touch, or smell that presume in our mind a consequence of creative use of Look, Depth of Field, or Rule of Thirds, even more. Great photos make our lifetimes want to look all the time. Not all Artists have Photographers, but all The right Photographers are Artists! I've come across thousands of movies the lifetime. Those that are a bit spacey, cry, or even feel upset I tend to remember. It's the same with still photos. If you are able to someone feel something these were not feeling before they viewed your project, then you have a good chance that it's award winning you seem to.
These are not the one factors in who wins and who'd not, but they are the average. If every time you are in a photo contest; and your entry passes these four tests... the odds of winning have just flower a thousand fold. It cannot be denied that creativity is if the eye of the beholder, but unless you see these four areas, maybe you are the only one beholding how you look. In most cases, winning photographs do not just happen. They are who can win.
