Wallace Robinson MacAskill (1887-1956) was among the Nova Scotia's most world famous marine photographers. (We have experienced conflicting birth dates ranging from 1887-1890). Best known for his America seascape and sailing sail boat scenes, his works are becoming increasing collectible in Canada and in the usa.
Born in St. Peters, Cape Breton County in Canada, MacAskill graduated from an outdoor Wade School of Photography in Rhode island in 1907. He cracked his first photographic facilities in St. Peters, plus Glace Bay, before touching to Halifax in 1915. In Halifax MacAskill aided military photographer W. W. MacLaughlan, and between 1916-19 he worked for the reason that printer at the One-of-a-kind Studios in Halifax. Between 1920-29 MacAskill worked for the reason that photographic printer for the economic Photo Service.
In 1926 MacAskill hitched Elva Abriel, another digital photographer, and he opened supplementary studio in Halifax around this time. His pictures were used extensively after Nova Scotia government, and a lot of MacAskill pictures also grown to two books that he published including For the Halifax (1937) and Lure within the Sea (1951). Probably MacAskill's most famous picture was the popular schooner "Bluenose", which appeared for the reason that postage stamp in 1929, and which appeared in several books and which ended up one of his in demand art photographs.
Wallace R. MacAskill died in Halifax against January 25, 1956. Down below 1964 Mrs. MacAskill sold substances of MacAskill's studio, amongst his negatives, to Maurice Crosby, an alternate Halifax photographer.
