The Wohlen Graduating high school and Santiago Calatrava

All Why don't we say is, you've got to hand the property to Santiago Calatrava usually thinking outside the mug - way outside.

The system firm of Burkhard, Meyer and Steiger engaged Calatrava to produce designs for several region to region of the Wohlen High school graduation, notably roof sections in highly visible public ways.

Starting with the area immediately near to the actual entrance to the school, Calatrava used what has now become almost a trademark variety of his.

At first peek, the wing like template of steel and glass appears that symmetrical. However, further close inspection reveals that as soon as tubular arch bears a steady radial curve, the wings themselves falling from this arch mimic reversed end for mouth piece. One end is easy, while steadily increasing very long until reaching the far end, some 20 sitting down away. Rather than the fast end of the wings being directly opposite your partner, they sit at opposing ends the particular steel arch.

One other section in which Santiago designed was the top above the assembly hallway. Looking very church like from inside, there are a a list of very decorative supporting arches anywhere the actual roof chips. These arches, along for only a delicate fin like tissues which extend therefrom, are completely exposed as part of. Calatrava has always been a believer the location where the structure of the building itself should be visible internally.

The two long clerestory windows on both sides of the assembly hall roof are most likely not structural, in that they don't need to add any support regarding roof itself. This is handled by the arch assemblies close to hall.

Light from these top windows plays on the fins inside a arches, in turn reflecting in the hall below.
